At Kølhede, pig breeding is a central part of the farm’s daily operations. Each year, approximately 60,000 pigs are produced and sold when they reach 30 kg.
The production is organized to ensure the well-being of both animals and employees, with a focus on creating good conditions for both sows and piglets. The farm’s facilities include gestation unit, farrowing unit, and weaner units, where staff are distributed and specialized in different sections. This way, each part of the production receives the necessary attention and professional expertise.
Gestation Unit
In the gestation unit, the sows stay during their pregnancy. Here, the staff specializes in ensuring that the sows have the best conditions during pregnancy. The animals’ well-being is closely monitored, and routines are implemented to support both health and welfare in the unit.
Farrowing Unit
When the sows are ready to farrow, they are moved to the farrowing unit. Here they give birth to their piglets, and the staff focuses on creating good surroundings for both sow and nursing piglets. Professionalism and care ensure that both sows and piglets have a period that proceeds as responsibly and well as possible.
Weaner Unit
After weaning, the piglets are moved to the weaner unit. Here they grow to 30 kg before being sold. The staff in the weaner unit has experience in supporting the pigs in their transition to solid food and ensures they thrive and develop healthily during this important period.
